When it comes to music, Herschel Boone is no stranger. Music has been a part of his life from early childhood to the present. Herschel got his start singing with his 3 older brothers; two of whom had previously been established as recording artists. The brothers received remarkable training at early ages, initiated by their father, Moses Lee Boone Sr. Under the name, “The Little Soul Brothers”, Moses Jr. and Curtiss could be seen performing on the same stage with legends
such as The Temptations, James Brown and Marvin Gaye. They were also featured as guests on the nationally televised talk show “The Mike Douglas Show” at the young ages of 6 and 9. Years later, Herschel and his brother Everett were added to the group. The group would subsequently disband when Moses Jr. pursued a college degree. After a four year hiatus, the group would rejoin; adding their little sister Petrena in place of Moses Jr. They secured a recording contract with Atlantic Records and would enjoy moderate success. After leaving Atlantic, they would sign a major deal with Tabu/CBS, under the name “Detroyt”. The first single, “Physical Lover”, would break the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and the second single, “Back To Back”, also made an appearance on Billboard’s top 100 R&B singles chart. The group would eventually break up, never to regroup.
Herschel’s passion for music continued to grow and develop. His skills as a songwriter and producer ultimately led to his decision to make music his number one career choice. Since then, Herschel has written and produced a top 40 single for the group “IX Example”, written and produced for Glenn Lewis (whose CD debuted at number 4 on the Billboard Top 200) and has written for Debelah Morgan, who had a top 5 single on Billboard’s Hot 100. He has worked in many different capacities with artists such as Mary J. Blige, R. Kelly, Anita Baker, Aaron Neville, Keith Washington, Aaron Hall and many others. He has recently worked with Grammy & Oscar award winner, Luis Resto on his album “Combo de Momento”. Herschel has also worked on the latest Uncle Kracker CD, “Happy Hour”, and with Kid Rock’s new artist Ty Stone. Since meeting and working with Kid Rock, Herschel’s creativity has propelled to new heights. Herschel can be heard on Kid Rock’s upcoming CD, “Born Free”.
